Vasudeva Kriya Yoga has been actively organising Yoga Conferences in Melbourne, Australia since 2005 with a range of prominent speakers from the world over. Ever since the UN adopted the resolution to celebrate June 21st as the International Day of Yoga back in 2005, the Yoga Conference was turned into the International Day of Yoga celebrations.

Vasudeva Kriya Yoga has been celebrating International Day of Yoga every year since its inception 7 years ago.

In 2015, we organised a public function to celebrate the 1st International Day of Yoga which was attended by hundreds of Yoga Enthusiasts. We collaborated with the Consulate General of India in Melbourne and organised Surya Namaskara in the footsteps of the Victorian Parliament making our mark in this worldwide phenomenon.

The following year, in 2016, along with the public function, we celebrated the 2nd International Day of Yoga inside the Victorian Parliament in collaboration with the India Australia Exchange Forum. MPs Ted Baillieu and John Pesutto were among the enthusiastic participants. We were also invited by Durga Mandir, Rock Bank to celebrate this momentous day in the temple premises.

In the year 2017, we continued our tradition of organising the public function. This time, we were fortunate enough to get independently invited by the Victorian Parliament to celebrate the 3rd International Day of Yoga inside the Parliament. Rajendraji was able to successfully convey the message “Health Care over Medicare” to the Parliamentarians.

In the year 2018, we organised public functions in Springers Leisure Centre and Durga Mandir. We also celebrated the 4th International Day of Yoga in an invite-only event at Victorian Parliament.
In addition, a highlight of the year was that, for the first time, we celebrated this year’s International Day of Yoga inside the Australian Federal Parliament. Several Federal MPs and Honorable Ministers graced this event with their presence and it was indeed a grand success. About International Day of Yoga

The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practising yoga.

The draft resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states. The proposal was first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly, in which he said: “Yoga is an invaluable gift from our ancient tradition. Yoga embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action … a holistic approach [that] is valuable to our health and our well-being. Yoga is not just about exercise; it is a way to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature.”

The resolution notes “the importance of individuals and populations making healthier choices and following lifestyle patterns that foster good health.” In this regard, the World Health Organization has also urged its member states to help their citizens reduce physical inactivity, which is among the top ten leading causes of death worldwide, and a key risk factor for non-communicable diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer and diabetes.
